Sedona Desert

Sedona Desert

Travel north of Phoenix on Interstate 17 for about two hours (but before the Grand Canyon) is a tourist town that has millions visiting every year.  Yet, this desert town keeps only a quaint 10,000 (approximate) residents, the town is called Sedona.

The Sedona desert community is about half on private land and half in the Coconino National Forest.  It sits 4,500 feet above sea level, which gives it a nice temperate but crisp feel.  Never a too rugged climate.  Once, USA Today called the Sedona desert town the most beautiful place in the US. It is this beauty that draws millions every year.  Throughout the day, the rocks change colors as the sun reflects differently as it moves past.  Some  geological spotlights are Oak Creek Canyon, Boynton Canyon, Rachel's Knoll, Cathedral Rock, and Bell Rock.  The Sedona desert blends concentrations of iron, quartz rich sandstone, and magnesium soil into what is called Red Rock Country.
